yes, Kunta Kinte is back.
and this time, it's not a complaint, but rather a good thingy.
we went back to mil's home as she planned to have a kenduri to celebrate my bro-in-law's (yes, the same bil that used to stay with us) acceptance into PTD.
and guess who the cook will be?!
yeah, moi.
and the best part is that the menu changes with out consultation with the cook!
so, when we got back, there was an issue as we were supposed to buy the chicken.
kenduri is on Sunday. if we were to buy the chicken on saturday, where are we supposed to keep 10 birds, a few kilos of prawns and another few kilos of fish?
apparently, they planned to fry the chicken on saturday night.
which i vehemently do not agree.
i know it is standard(?) practise if there is a kenduri (or so they say), but i'm a food quality graduate. and i know it is NOT right.
so, i told them that i will buy the chicken sunday morning.
all drama aside, the result was mil and the gang went out to buy the chicken themselves (along with some grumbling)
and they fried them damn birds that night.
as for me, i cooked a whole big a$$ed kuali-with-5-kilos-of fish curry. this was the first time cooking with that gigantic amount, all by my self without my mom around. just imagine, cooking for 50 people.
and i also made sambal tumis udang.
and sambal belacan. (this is an ACTUAL feat for me, as i don't eat sambal belacan, and have never made any in my 20++ years)
and the finale?!
washing the dishes outside in my baju kurung with the help of my ever-helpful bibik..(yes, this time kunta kinte has an ally)
and Jasmine even asked, "Bonda, why do you have to do this?"
to which i replied "good question, kiddo. I don't know myself"
where was everyone else? inside, of course. 'resting' after the tiring eating session.
so, in the end, the menantu which is supposedly the KL gal-yang-tak-tau-cara-kita thingy ended up doing all the dirty work.
and why do it?
because of you, baby.
if this ain't love, then i don't know what is.
